In Cuba, the Corazon Feliz festival dedicated a full day to water, encouraging children to reflect on the water cycle, pollution, and ways to preserve this essential resource.
Corazon Feliz
Due to its geology and public policies, water management in Cuba is highly complex. Recurrent droughts, saltwater intrusion into freshwater reserves, and deteriorating infrastructure severely impact access to drinking water for households, as well as agriculture and livestock farming—key sectors of the Cuban economy.

Metis partnered with the 2023 edition of the Corazon Feliz festival, which promotes values of peace and environmental awareness among children.
The festival dedicated an entire day to water-related issues, offering workshops and performances on the topic. The group El Miron Cubano staged an immersive, interactive show: using projections and lighting effects, the audience was transported into an underwater world. Children also visited an exhibition on marine pollution at the Havana Museum of Fine Arts and shared their impressions in discussions following the visit. A contest on ocean pollution was organized, with artwork from a hundred children displayed at the National Directorate of Cultural Centers.
The entire festival, a major cultural event in Cuba, was documented by a team of videographers. A report was broadcast on the national evening news. The Corazon Feliz festival’s water day was also highlighted at Cubagua, an international conference on water and sanitation in Latin America.
